As a starting point we have our own kitchen displays at West Buckland where you can come and meet us and get a feel for the work we produce and we can discuss your initial requirements and any concerns you may have. Alternatively, if your project involves major building work which is still in its early stages, we can either work from the architect’s drawings or arrange a site visit where either David or Charles Chappell will come out for an informal discussion. This will enable us to get a good feel for your property and the style of furniture that will complement it. At this stage we will discuss the layout on a conceptual level and take note of any particular feature or appliances you would like to incorporate into the design.
DESIGN AND PRESENTATION
Computer aided design
With the benefit of computer aided design we are able to start by creating a totally accurate model of your furniture, which is detailed and complete. We like to look at various angles of the design to understand exactly how we visualise your new kitchen. We can even open cupboard doors to reveal pull our shelves, add interior divides or check shelf spacing so that your exact requirements are created on screen as part of the initial design. We will then go through the design in detail, cabinet by cabinet, to ensure that we optimise the layout in terms of varied storage systems, aesthetics and ergonomics. Accessing our fully three-
Detailing our work
Once we are both happy with the design we will go through details such as choice of materials for carcassing, countertops and internal cabinet fittings so that we can provide you with an accurate quotation, to include everything from design to installation. As well as examining the design in detail we will also look at your project as a whole so that a realistic schedule is set for the work to be carried out, including building work, electrical installation, flooring, etc to make sure that no part of the process is overlooked or out of phase, whether we are contracted to do these works or liaison is required with other contractors. If this is the case we will supply all of the information required to ensure that the project as a whole runs smoothly.
If you are happy with everything so far we will then provide an order form to be signed and returned with a deposit payment, typically 25% of the total order.
At our own fully equipped workshops in W.Somerset we pride ourselves on our tradition of craftsmanship and our ability to carry out all aspects of furniture making. Traditional techniques such as dovetailing and frame and panel door construction are all carried out to ensure that our cabinets are hand make to the highest quality. Your new cabinets will incorporate any fittings such as magic corner units, spice racks and pull out waste bins, all expertly fitted at our workshops.
At the final stage of the journey through our workshops, the doors are furnished with a choice of solid brass or stain chrome butt hinges and the end panels, plinths, cornice and drawers are all checked for trial fit as each order is readied for despatch. The journey from woodland to your home will already have lasted many months; most importantly many years of appreciation are still ahead.
